3 Tips for Successful Closet Organization

How many times have you gone into your closet and seen a duplicate clothing item? Have you ever said, "Oh wait, I didn't know I had this." a time or two? I think we have all been guilty of one or the other. If you're anything like me, you have tons of clothes, shoes, purses, and accessories in your closet. Unfortunately, some of mine was taking up much-needed space. I do not have a fancy, custom closet with shelves and nooks. Not right now, at least. I have a small, compact closet that I was recently growing out of. (Well, my side of the closet was getting tight. My husband's side, not so much!) Since my husband and I share the closet, it's not very spacious. So I did what needed to be done to consolidate my closet space.
Here are three tips that helped me to face the task of closet organization:
Be prepared
Plan a day where you can make organizing a priority. Put it on your calendar to-do list so that you can block off enough time to conquer your project. Be intentional in letting your spouse and kids know that you will be busy and prefer no distractions. Having a game plan is the key to organization. Many times we will start a project but not finish it because we did not plan accordingly. The better prepared you are, the more you can get done. The better prepared you are, the less time it will take to complete.

Once the date and time are marked, start assessing your space and seeing what you have. View each item in your closet one by one and determine what you want to do with it. My biggest tip for things to give away is to ask yourself, "Have I worn this in the last three months?" "Where would I wear this?" "Has it recently crossed my mind as an outfit option?" If not, give it away. I've been there where I've wanted to lose weight and go down a size or two, so I held on to an outfit year after year. Unless you're going to hunker down and lose those pounds, let it go. Create a pile for what you are keeping, what is junk or disposable, and the items you would like to give away to charities like Goodwill. Another option is hosting a garage sale or selling your items on the Poshmark and Thred Up websites. You may also have family members or friends who would love your items, especially those that are like-new. One man's trash is another man's treasure! If you need to move some things to storage, a moving company to consider is Bearded Brothers Moving Group, LLC. They can assist you in varies services such as labor, residential moves or move in and clean out! This labor moving business in Youngstown, Ohio is able take the stress and difficulties of a move and amplify it because there are so many things that could go wrong from your first location to your second. They know how important the details are of moving which is why they offer to help you during this this time.
Gather Your Tools
Make sure that you have enough hangers and other organizational tools for your project. Hangers seem to disappear in my closet, so buying more hangers than needed is a great tip. I feel that you can never have too many hangers. I suggest that you purchase all of the same color and type so that you can see a difference in the aesthetic of your closet. Whatever hangers you do not use, you can always store them in your garage or attic for later use. I also recommend space-saving tools such as magic hangers, shoe rack organizers, and storage bins. That way, you can store more and eventually buy more items.
I hope these tips were helpful and that you can put them to great use. Do you have any advice that you would like to share? Please feel free to leave it below
