Alice In Wonderland!

For about the past year I've been able to partner with Ballet Met and Opera Columbus and their amazing shows. I have to say that they always exceed my expectations greatly. It's amazing to see that a 1951 film that I grew up watching in the 90's is still making people happy today. I have to say "thats how you know you have a great story".

I remember as a little girl this was a movie that I watched many times on a cassette tape lol. Starting in a park in the movie with a woman (assumed to be her mother), but in the ballet with her sister and her father. Just like in the movie she sees the white rabbit and out of curiosity decides to follow. I remember in the movie she quoted " curiosity usually gets you into trouble" and how this is sometimes so very true lol !

As she followed the rabbit, she fell into a hole which leads her to Wonderland. How they were able to depict the fall was very cool because she still fell so graceful and you could see the world that she was falling into. Still following the rabbit she is lead to a place full of doors, where she has to choose one. The white rabbit that she was following ended up appearing and giving her a bottle that "said drink me" and then leaves her yet another time. It's cool because in the movie it's a door knob that leads her to drink from the bottle. I love to see plays and ballets that have movies and or books because not only do you have an insight to the story but you can see more and or see/hear the story in a different way.

After drinking, Alice becomes big, but too big to get through the doors. So the rabbit appears yet again with food labeled "eat me". As she eats this, she begins to get smaller again, but this time too small. So she has to find a way to use them both to return to her normal size. How frustrating this must have been. The door scene was also depicted perfectly. It was so cool to see how much detail Balletmet put into still making you feel like you were apart of that dreamy world.

As she next goes through the door she finds herself in a mess yet again by racing creatures. Featuring flamingos, hedgehogs and more. As always Balletmet does a great job at using children in their performances. Not only is this encouraging to other young aspiring dancers but is also such a joy to watch! I find it funny how she keeps finding herself in a mess. This is definitely something that we've experienced at times before a major life change.

She then travels into the forrest where she meets a Caterpillar and two twins name Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, funny right? They can't seem to get along and little does Alice know that there is trouble lurking by. The dangerous Jabberwocky. As she continues to wonder she runs into the Cheshire cat ( who was very funny by the way)who disappears.

I could go on and on, but let me just share some of my favorites.

My favorite part was the "Tea Party" scene where you saw some of the people that she had met so far including some new faces like the Mad Hatter, caterpillar, tweedle dee and tweedle dumb and the white rabbit! The ballet has a twist because there tea party is interrupted by the evil Jabberwocky. If you just watched the movie, you don't get this same experience because in the movie Alice left the tea party frustrated not scared lol.

After this part sadly I had to leave the show because my husband was really sick. But If you missed it you definitely have to come next time! Thankfully I was able to read up on the ending that I missed but I don't want to ruin it for you, you'll have to click below to read for yourself. Feel free to check out the link below to see pictures and read up on what you missed! Stay tuned for more giveaways!
