After a long week, what better way to end it than with a ballet. I've told you all before these events are not only entertaining, but so relaxing for me because of my love for music and the arts. It's amazing to see the creativity and amazing ideas that go into these productions. This time we got to share it with one of our friends, missing one and had an awesome time. It's great to share something with people who love the same things you do. "Be Moved" was composed of several short ballets which all told different stories.
I've gotten the chance to see several of Edwaard Liang's short ballets. One thing that I love is not only are they graceful and creative, but entertaining as well. One of my favorite performances was Alexander Eckman's "Cacti". This performance showed a dancing choreographers response to negative criticism he received. The voice over that they used during the performance was hysterical, and one you definitely had to be there for. I will try to explain it in a way that you can imagine it. There were many dancers and each dancer had their own large square that in fact lit up. While during this performance there was no talking, the dancers had a beautiful part in the musical sound. They used their hands to make percussion beats while the music was playing. There were also several solo partner dances during this performance using a quick spotlight to keep your attention. There were also cactus plants used in the performance which made it all the more colorful! I always wonder how the directors are able to come up with these amazing stories and reading about them definitely helps me understand them so much better. Yes they are beautiful performances, but each one has it's own unique story behind the music, costumes and even props and even lighting.
There was also an amazing violinist "Mary Rowell" who played during another performance called "Red Angels" a story about conflict of light and darkness. You can see a small clip below. We hear music, but to see it being played as well is such a great joy!
If you're not someone who likes to sit during long performances, these short ballets are a good way to still enjoy yourself because there are several intermissions. My husband recently had a lot of back problems, so this was a huge benefit for us, while still getting to entertain ourselves. I love ballet met and getting to support the arts! If you didn't get to this time, definitely enter the next give away and join me for an amazing performance!
