For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” Psalms 139:13-17
As a child, even as a teenager i struggled with my identity. I was born with long black curly hair, and always wanted straight hair. I thought I was too skinny, had a huge forehead and needed more curves. I thought being lighter was better. I wanted to be like what I saw on tv. Growing up in church, I always felt different. I wanted to do things that other kids/teens were doing, and even when I tried and sometimes even did what they did, it never felt 100% natural to me. Why? because I WAS different. Like me, so many times we look to other things to discover and find out who we are, instead of looking and seeing what God says about us. Whether it's make-up, relationships, substance abuse, or social media. The bible says to "be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed". Meaning, we have to allow God to transform us, if not we'll be conformed to whatever we choose to surround ourselves with. Have you ever heard the saying "you are who you hang around? It's so true! I can't begin to tell you how many times I've been around people or family from different parts of the country or world and began taking on their traits and accents. Funny right? Your drivers license states the basis of who you are. Your name, address, phone, ect. But what about you the person? The more you read, study, fast and pray, you will begin to discover the details of your identity in Christ! When you begin embracing your true identity, it will just be an enhancement to the amazing gifts and characteristics God included when he made YOU! In the above text it says that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made"! God took time to make you, every part of you and his thoughts are so precious towards you. If you could just say God help me to see what you see, I guarantee you he will!
