Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
I was a young girl raised in church since I was born. When I first decided to give my life to Jesus it was out of fear. Fear of not being able to make it to Heaven. While this is something that people 100% definitely need to be aware of, it's not the only reason why we should choose to give our life to Jesus. What if someone told you that the only reason they want to be with you is because you can give them something? It's crazy because even in our ignorance and lack of understanding when we choose to give our life to Christ he still accepts us. I had some but not a full understanding of what It means to give your life to Christ and truly live for him. Even though I was growing I did some things more out of religious practice or because I was told without seeing or understanding it for myself. Even in that there was grace.
When I got older I ended up re-committing my life to Christ. Not just because of not wanting to make sure that I make it to Heaven, but because I realized how much I need him. Every single day, I need him. Some people choose not to believe in God, I always say "try him", you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.
Accepting him is just the beginning. He doesn't just want us to accept him to get our pass, but he desires to have a relationship with us. A life with him is more than just religious practices. We have his word, the Bible and there is so much that he desires to show us. The only way to get to know someone is by spending time with them, it's the same with Christ.
A life with him isn't meant to be chaotic, but we have to decide to be committed. We can't call on God only when we think we need him. The truth is, even when we don't think we need him we do, because it's only by his grace that we are able to go on.
I find it amazing that even when I chose to disobey, ignore, rebel and choose not to serve him , he still loved me. Even if I never chose to give my life to him, he would still love me. God sent his one and only son to die so that we could have a chance, for my life that will not be in vain. It doesn't have to be for yours either.
Some people might say this scripture is too hard and impossible. It's possible because he said it, and he's here to help you get there if you aren't. You're not giving up your life, you're gaining life! The next part of this text says to love your neighbor as yourself. Once you experience and are able to know love "Christ", you'll be able to give it correctly!
