Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
Being a Christian "new" or "old", some find it hard. Hard to do the right thing, and just hard to live "like Jesus". I think that sometimes we forget that it's not our job to "change us". It's our job to obey and God does the changing. It's almost like cooking. you read the directions, mix in all of the ingredients and then place it in the oven. The oven takes care of the rest. No matter how hard you try, you cannot with your bare hands do what the oven does. Not only does it finish the outside, but makes sure that the inside is complete as well. But, you have to leave it in there long enough, or it doesn't fully become what it was supposed to be in the first place. It's the same way with God. This text says that "his law is perfect, converting the soul". (your mind, will and emotions). The real and deep part of you. The place where things and habits have been stuck on the inside of you. His law, his word changes that.
You never want to remain in a place where you're saying " I am the way that I am because of what I've been through" or " I think and will continue to think the way that I think because so and so hurt me". I've been there and it's a miserable place to stay. You begin to establish a false confidence, not realizing that you never dealt with the issue because you're afraid of the same thing happening again.
Everything that we've been through and go through, we have to allow God to completely deliver us from. That doesn't mean that we forget, but we no longer act out of hurt, bitterness or insecurity.
Change doesn't aways take place overnight, but it's like I stated in a previous post... The more you're around something, the more you become like it. It's the same way with Jesus. His law converts your soul, but you have to spend time with him and obey his law, his word.
Just like you go to the doctors to have a check up, just to make sure everything is okay and regular. Have daily check ups with God. Ask him to examine your soul, and fill it with him. There's nothing wrong with getting a check up from the expert when not only will he know why something is good or wrong, but will always have a 100% guaranteed solution.
