When I was a little girl my god mother would take me and my god sister to see the ballet. As an adult loving music and the arts this is something that is now very relaxing for me. I could have had a long day, but getting here listening to the music, the dancing is something that I am very appreciative of.
So enough with all of my babbling, you guys are waiting to hear about my experience at Twisted right? Right lol. This show was an awesome combination of arts with Ballet met, Columbus Symphony, Opera Columbus and Capa.
The night started off with Columbus Symphony performing Petrushka. For people like my husband who love music, but also love things to keep their attention this was a great experience. This is the story of 3 puppets and jealousy. In the beginning they are brought to life, two men and a woman. They are both fond of the woman, but she is only fond of one of them. Although she has made her choice Petrushka insists on challenging his opponent and dies. It was actually very sad. Even though he was practically in love and may have felt like there was no one else, there are many other people in the world lol. Experience and young relationships will definitely teach you that. While the live music was playing, we were able to watch the puppet show live on a screen as well as in person. It was amazing to hear the theatrical music that you hear in movies live right in front of you. Even though I had never heard of this story before, I was able to understand it by how detailed they were in their production.
While I loved this story and the ballet, my favorite event of the night had to be Opera Columbus' performance of Gianni Schicchi. The story of a very wealthy man named Giacomo Puccini who happens to pass away and his family filled with greed does everything that they can to obtain his fortune. I didn't think that family's could actually do this, but this changed my perspective. One amazing thing about this show was it was all in Italian, provided with subtitling so that it was very easy to understand and funny I might add. The story started with Puccini passing away and his family awaiting to see his will. Later discovering that everything in his will was to be left to the monks. They were not happy let me add! It comes to mind of Rinuccio a young man in the family to call Gianni Schicchi who is also his girlfriends father to devise a plan on how to change the will. He arrives with his daughter and finally gives in. What they don't know is that his plan is to leave the most prized possessions to himself. When the notary comes to make the changes to the will, he thinks that he is talking to Puccini, however it is in fact Gianni. Because the family cannot reveal their plan, they have to go along with it. In the end after Gianni divided property amongst the family and left the rest to himself, he kicks the family out. Sadly there is nothing that they can do because the "new will" is in effect. The only ones left in the house at the end were Gianni, his daughter and Rinuccio.
The crazy thing is Gianni didn't leave the family empty handed, yet they were still ungrateful. If I learned anything it was to honor the will of your family and don't let greed get in the way. It will always get you in trouble. I was love to share my adventures and favorite experiences/part and this was in fact was my favorite. I've sat in the top, second row and middle of the theater. No matter where you sit, I feel you get the same experience. I can't wait to share more with you all! Stay tuned......
