What are you saying ?

Proverbs 13:3 "He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life; but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction".

The tongue sometimes can be one of the hardest things for us to control. What's crazy is sometimes we don't even realize it. The closer that I get to God because he's so holy and pure, the more I realize when I'm doing things that aren't pleasing to him. Kind of like if you're a messy person, if you don't already, you usually don't realize it until you're around someone that's very clean.

Sometimes we have to remember that we are living in human bodies, flesh, that doesn't desire to please God. In Romans it talks about how our carnal mind is enmity or opposed to God. Our flesh is curious whether we like to admit it or not. It can be so easy to get wrapped up in gossip, and even say things that you shouldn't out of frustration. This is something that not only people, but "christians" struggle with on a daily basis. But...when will we stop making excuses for ourselves? The bible says that out of the abundance of our heart we speak. What's in your heart? Is it your unconscious desire to please people?, Hurt?, Bitterness? All these are reasons why certain things make it into our heart and produce ungodly things from our mouths. There are some intentionally cruel people out there, but most people don't intentionally do things that we get upset with them for. Even if they are intentionally cruel, as followers of Christ as hard as it cane be sometimes, it's still our responsibility to love them.

I think sometimes we've thought "once saved, always saved", but we have to daily allow God to work in and out of us because we live in this human body. Jesus said that we have to love our neighbor as ourself, this is the greatest commandment. The only way to give love is to know love which is Jesus.

I've learned this personally, with my family, my husband and friends. Sometimes we make excuses for treating the people close to us wrong, by saying they see me at my worst. There's a difference between seeing you at your worst and you being your worst when you're around them. We have so much power in our words, and with a daily heart check we can make our words so much more fruitful. I would never want to be the tree that's cut down for producing bad fruit because of my words.
